Mirë se vini!
It’s Eden (Martin) here.
The alarm rang at 4:15 AM. Outside it was still pitch dark and pouring rain. I loaded the modern minivan with plenty of cold water, fresh fruit, homemade cookies, and Albanian chocolate for the road. By 5 AM I was already heading north toward Montenegro.
The rain didn’t let up. Parts of the road were under construction, so I drove extra carefully while Johnny Cash played softly in the background – “Ring of Fire” felt just right for the weather. Four hours later I arrived in Kotor to pick up my guests.
Even with the early start and wet morning, they greeted me with big, warm smiles.
I immediately offered them water and snacks, turned the music down a little, and we began the journey back to Albania. As we crossed the border, the rain finally started to ease and the sun peeked through the clouds. I smiled and said, “Welcome to Albania!” – they loved the moment.
The drive south was relaxed and full of good conversation. I shared stories about Albanian culture, history, and everyday life. It’s always clear how proud I am of my country, and I enjoy seeing guests light up when they feel that pride too.
By lunchtime we were hungry. I took them to one of my favorite places: Mrizi i Zanave – a beautiful farm-to-table agriturismo run by the talented chef Altin Prenga on his family’s land. We enjoyed a long, special lunch surrounded by fresh garden produce, homemade cheeses, warm bread from the wood oven, and a lovely wine tasting from their own vineyard. The food was incredible, the atmosphere peaceful, and the experience felt truly authentic.
After a good rest and full bellies, we continued toward Tirana. The countryside looked fresh and green after the rain, and the rest of the drive passed comfortably with more stories and a bit more Johnny Cash.
We reached Tirana in the late afternoon. As I dropped them at their hotel, one of the guests gave me a warm hug and said it was one of the best travel days they’d had in the Balkans.
Moments like these – early rainy starts, safe and comfortable rides, surprise farm-to-table lunches, and turning a simple transfer into a real Albanian memory – are exactly why I love what I do at Albania by Eden.
